It’s tricky to assess the very fine blade edge, so it’s always a good idea to change blades in sets. However, if you’re mainly operating on cats and small dogs, you won’t use the 4 and 5mm blades as often.
We have a special feline set, containing the 1.5mm, 2mm and 3mm elevation and luxation blades. You can select this on your reorder and then just order 4 and 5mm blades when you need them.
Our suggested blade replacement frequency relates to your dental caseload:
10+ procedures/week – replace every 1-2 months
5-10 procedures/week – replace every 3-4 months
2-4 procedures/week – replace every 5-6 months
Less than 2 procedures/week – replace every 7-10 months
It is important to remember this is just a guide. If you prefer more surgical precision, we recommend more frequent blade replacement. Your blade replacement schedule can be altered, skipped or cancelled by you at any time.
We sell our products through distributors in Europe, the USA, Canada, South America and the Middle East to enable us to have instruments stocked worldwide for quick delivery. If you are unsure who you can purchase from feel free to contact us with your location and we will put you in touch with a distributor: contact@dentanomic.com If there is not a distributor in your region, in most cases, you can buy direct and we will ship to you.
No, you are not obliged to do so. However, we recommend if you are wanting to keep your blade edges thin and sharp that you do so. The system has been designed to make life easier for practices, meaning you set a blade replacement frequency to suit, which you can amend/pause/cancel at any point. There is no contract, and it is not a subscription. You don’t need to think or worry about your blade replacements and will always have perfectly thin and sharp edges to operate with.
We offer a 30-day satisfaction guarantee on all our instruments provided you have attended our training session. Please contact the distributor you purchased through who will be happy to help.
Alternatively, if you would like to speak to us directly, we would be keen to understand why you are not happy. Please email us at contact@dentanomic.com
Blades can bend gradually over time from general use, which is why we encourage regular replacement on our Stay Sharp reorder programme.
If you’re seeing a sudden blade bend, it is probably the result of using techniques appropriate for thicker edged blades. The techniques that give you maximum speed are also the techniques that won’t damage your blade edges. Dentanomic blades often bend because of a rapid twisting or levering motion, both of which are inefficient ways to extract a tooth.
The simplest thing to do is to send us a picture of your blade and we will tell you what has happened. Email contact@dentanomic.com
If you are aware that your technique doesn’t suit our blades, you can always attend another of our training sessions for a refresh, free of charge.
If you’re unsure which technique you are using or you are struggling to extract teeth with Dentanomic, feel free to attend another of our training sessions on a Thursday (hopefully you have already attended one) free of charge.
If you’re still unsure send us a message and we can arrange a 1-2-1 virtual session to talk it through with you. Email contact@dentanomic.com

Check that your cleaning solutions are suitable for steel and aluminium.
The pH should be between 7-8.5. We recommend using distilled (deionised) water for all our instruments. We recommend a final rinse with distilled (de-ionised water) after cleaning and before autoclaving.
Our handles are made from high grade aluminium. The protective anodised finish can be stripped off if alkaline cleaning solutions are used and corrosive spots can appear on the stainless-steel components.
All Dentanomic components should be autoclaved once clean. We recommend using the handle and blade trays to keep everything secure.
The below cleaning solutions are safe for Dentanomic instruments, but please check the data sheet before use in case of formula changes:
Reprozyme, Reprodis HLD4, 3E-Zyme, Enzystel, Gigazyme Concentrated Instrument Cleaner.
Our equine molar extension bar and storage tray with foam insert is not suitable for autoclaving.
We do not recommend heat sterilisation ovens as they may deposit burned material onto the screw threads of Dentanomic components. It is not safe to sterilise our Dentanomic handle tray in a heat sterilisation oven as the rubber component may burn.
Sharpening removes metal and changes the profile of the blade, making it thicker and less effective.
Honing is is a useful first aid technique for a damaged blade which straightens minor edge bends, making the blade efficient again.
Honing can straighten a bent edge but won’t repair a blunt thickened edge.
You don’t have to do any blade care if you don’t want to. Sign up to our Stay Sharp reorder program to automate your deliveries here.
We discussed homing in the training session you attended when you purchased. You can click on this link for a short demonstrative video https://youtu.be/FwmLT5NdnYE or if you are still unsure feel free to contact us: contact@dentanomic.com

As a rough guide, we recommend using a blade that is half the width of the tooth root you are working with. You may find you need to change up and down blade sizes as you move down the tooth; tooth roots often get more narrow towards the apex.
A lot!
Elevation is applying a slow, controlled rotational force (one way OR the other, NOT both ways) to stretch and tear the periodontal ligament. You can watch a short tutorial here for more information: https://youtu.be/XEBe7untsdY
Luxation is a side-to-side movement that moves the blade down into the periodontal space. For fast, efficient luxation, you should not twist the blade.. You can watch a short tutorial here for more information: https://youtu.be/1XKjDgTDncM
Yes! Every component in the small animal set is autoclavable. We recommend autoclaving in the handle or blade trays. If you do not have these, you can separate the stainless-steel components (blades, bolts and keys) and aluminium handles and place them in an autoclave bag.
The equine molar extension bar and the equine storage tray with foam insert are not autoclavable.
If you have a surgical glove size of 7.5 or less, you need the standard handle. If you have an 8 or bigger you need the large handle.
Some Veterinarians have longer fingers, and may need a larger handle, and some Veterinarians with larger handles might be happier with a standard, so there are exceptions to the rule. If unsure, ask your local rep to bring one of each into clinic and you can size them up properly.
When creating a larger flap, we recommend starting with a larger blade. Smaller blades are ideal for more delicate tissue and smaller flaps, or where you are in a delicate area (such as near a blood supply). As with our elevation and luxation blades, you may find you need to switch up and down the sizes on the same flap. As a rule, starting with a 4mm blade is a good compromise until you get used to the different sizes.
Appearances can be deceiving! To the naked eye, blades can still look in good condition. However, if you look up very closely, the blade edge will be thicker and less pointed than it was originally. You are trying to enter a very narrow space, and this WILL slow you down.
If you are struggling with the performance of your blades, we recommend replacing them, and increasing your automated replacement frequency. You will notice the difference!
Don’t panic! We are here to help. Please feel free to drop us an email to sales@dentanomic.com and we will be able to point you in the right direction. You could also contact your distributor.
